mParivahan App — Features, Digital RC & How to Use
The mParivahan app is the official mobile application of India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It lets you store a digital RC and DL on your phone, check vehicle details, and pay traffic challans.

What is the mParivahan App?
The mParivahan app is India's official government mobile application for vehicle and transport services, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) on behalf of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). It is the smartphone version of the Parivahan Sewa portal (parivahan.gov.in).
The app's most significant feature is Digital RC and Digital DL storage. Under the Central Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules 2019, documents stored via the mParivahan app (linked to DigiLocker) are legally valid and must be accepted by traffic police as equivalent to the physical document. You no longer need to carry the original RC book or DL card in your vehicle.
Beyond digital documents, mParivahan provides real-time access to the VAHAN vehicle database (RC details, owner name, insurance, PUC), eChallan check and payment, tax payment, and Sarathi DL services - all from a single app.
Key Features of mParivahan
Digital RC (Registration Certificate)
Store your vehicle's RC digitally on your phone. Linked to DigiLocker - legally valid for traffic police checks under MV Act 2019 amendments. You do not need to carry a physical RC.
Digital Driving Licence
Access your DL digitally. Same DigiLocker linkage, legally valid. Traffic police can scan the QR code on the digital DL.
Vehicle Search (VAHAN)
Check RC details - owner name, registration date, insurance status, fitness validity, PUC expiry - for any Indian vehicle by entering the number plate.
eChallan Check and Payment
Check pending challans by vehicle number or DL number and pay them directly through the app via UPI, debit card or net banking.
Tax Payment
Pay road tax and other vehicle-related taxes through the app for supported states.
Driving Licence Services
Track DL application status, renewal status and appointment booking for driving tests.
Vehicle Fitness Status
Check whether your vehicle's fitness certificate (FC) is valid, and get alerts before expiry.
Dealer / Manufacturer Services
Dealers can use the app for vehicle registration and certificate generation - useful for showroom staff.
How to Use mParivahan - Step by Step
Download the official app
Search for 'mParivahan' on Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS). The official app is published by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Government of India. Verify the publisher before installing.
Register with your mobile number
Open the app and tap 'Register'. Enter your mobile number - an OTP is sent. Enter the OTP to verify. No email ID required for basic registration.
Link your vehicle or DL
Tap 'Add Vehicle' and enter your vehicle registration number. To add your DL, tap 'Add Driving Licence' and enter your DL number and date of birth. The app fetches details from the VAHAN/Sarathi database.
Enable Digital RC / DL (DigiLocker)
Go to 'My Documents'. Tap 'Get Digital RC' or 'Get Digital DL'. This links your document to your DigiLocker account. Once linked, the digital version is displayed in the app and is legally valid.
Use vehicle search and challan features
Even without linking your own vehicle, you can use Vehicle Search (enter any number plate) and check/pay challans. These features are available immediately after login.
Download mParivahan only from the official Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Verify the publisher is NIC (National Informatics Centre). Fake versions of government apps are a common vector for fraud and data theft.
