Since February 2021, all toll plazas on National Highways are FASTag-only. Vehicles without a FASTag (or with a deactivated/blacklisted tag) are charged double the toll.
Never affix FASTag on tinted glass or metallic windshields - it blocks RFID signals and causes toll gates not to open, leading to queues and fines.
One vehicle can have only ONE active FASTag. If you get a new FASTag, deactivate the old one first by calling your bank's FASTag helpline.
FASTag monthly statements are available in your bank's app or at netc.npci.org.in. Use these for expense tracking and to verify every deduction is correct.
How to Get a New FASTag
Choose your bank
Any scheduled bank in India issues FASTag. Most popular: HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Paytm Payments Bank, IDFC First. Your existing bank app is the easiest starting point.
Apply online or at a toll plaza
Apply through your bank's app/website, or visit any NHAI-affiliated toll plaza. You'll need: vehicle RC copy, vehicle photo, passport-size photo, and ID proof.
Complete KYC
Upload Aadhaar (or PAN + address proof). KYC verification takes 24–48 hours. Without completed KYC, your FASTag will be in a limited-use state.
Link your vehicle
The FASTag is registered to your vehicle number. One vehicle = one active FASTag. Having two active FASTags on one vehicle causes deactivation of both.
Affix the FASTag sticker
Stick it on the inner windshield, slightly left of centre (near the rear-view mirror base). Do not stick on tinted glass - it blocks the RFID reader.
